Non-Owned Auto Liability Insurance Policy – How to Get it Cheap

what is loss of service as compared to a loss of use cover under a liability insurance policy?

My car was hit by another car which was being test driven by a motor shop. My car had to be repaired and I had to commute to work for a week. Added to that I had to stay home for 4 days since I was recuperating from the injury. The shop has a liability policy and I wanted to claim from that insurance.

as a rule, loss of use is when your car is in the shop for repairs and you then have no car to drive. they would owe to put you in a rental car so you could go to work, grocery store etc.

but the other poster advice of $25 is wrong. most likely if you do not rent a car, they will give you around $10 to $15 per day expenses for using a family/friends car or for using alternate services. the reason for the lower amount is that a rental shop has administrative expenses; ie salary, utilites etc.

also; depending on the state where you live, you might be eligible for a bodily injury settlement. this would include reimbursement of any medical bills, RX etc plus what they call pain/suffering. if you were unable to work, they would owe you your loss earnings. but you would have to show proof of your earnings; ie; paycheck. you state home for 4 days recuperating. also you will need a doctors excuse stating you were unable to do your job. many people are off weeks, when they could work thinking the insurance company will reimburse, but unless a doctor states unable to work, most adjusters will not consider.

good luck
